When I first started, I tried doing high spm's and strapped.<br /><br />After reading some other threads, I now row strapless, keep my spm's at 24-26 and my pace @ 2:10 or lower, depending on the distance. This is in keeping not only with "ergers" but those who row on the water (myself not included)...
