New Ignore Feature! (kinda)
New Ignore Feature! (kinda)
(edit: I gave this post a bad title at first - I don't want you to ignore it!)
We're finding that the options for installing an 'ignore user' option are quite intimidating, but I do have an alternative for now:
1. Use Firefox (if you're on Windows you really should anyway):
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
2. Install the greasemonkey extension:
http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/
3. Restart firefox, then right-click the following link and choose 'Install User script...'
http://s93731204.onlinehome.us/firefox/ ... re.user.js
Once installed you'll find a little [X] next to a user's ID. Click it, and watch the world transform into a happier place. Probably*
For more technical users - There is an extension version of this script available, but I couldn't get it to work. See this thread (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=236218) for more details.

I'm looking forward to trying this when I get home, but am hoping that the "for now" means that you're still pursuing an "ignore" feature that will work with IE, since that's all I can use to access during the day.
But thank you for your diligence in pursuing an interim step...I expect to be very happy when I get home and can try this too!

One of the issues with the solution that the UK site implemented is that not only is it an in-depth install, but it appears it needs to be redone every time you install a security fix. Security, unsurprisingly, will come first, so it means a lot of extra work and possible mistakes to keep the solution going. But no, we haven't given up on the idea!

It might with with MSIE
Has anyone tried this Greasemonkey script with Microsoft Internet Explorer and the Turnabout extension?

I've tried it with Trixie. Unfortunately, it seems to use XPath to find nodes in the HTML document. I don't think that works in IE unless it's displaying XML.
It could probably be re-written in a less XSL/XPath fashion. I'm not really partial to running browser extensions (especially in IE) like Trixie anyway though.

Thanks for the bonus on the "Ignore the Trolls" fe
Since adding the new Ignore option, I notice that not only are the original posts by ignored individuals blocked, but the references / quotes to those messages are ignored as well. That's a good thing. Thanks again!
Should I continue to hold out hope that you will be coming up with an 'ignore' script for IE?
I really really don't want to install yet another piece of software that requires regular updates. I also assume that Windows XP will 'tweak' Firefox or my default settings when I update XP.
For those of ypu who will advise me to abandon Windows-I am a web manager, and my clients use Windows. I have to stay in the XP environment unless I set up a special computer just for C2 (not an option right now)
Thanks, grams
